A collaboration between researchers from MIT and Stanford University has birthed a novel machine-learning approach poised to revolutionize the control of robots, such as drones and autonomous vehicles, in dynamically changing environments.

"Unlike existing approaches that treat dynamics and controller learning as separate entities, our approach is more akin to deriving models manually from physics and connecting that knowledge to control," explains lead author Spencer M. Richards, a graduate student at Stanford University.
Conversely, manually modeling complex systems is challenging, as phenomena like aerodynamic influences are intricate to capture through manual derivation. Hence, data-driven approaches become vital. However, these often fail to capture control-based structures essential for crafting effective controllers.
